COVID-19 Emergency Relief Program
Emergency Food Relief
COVID-19 has taken a high toll in Nepal, and disproportionally affected poor daily wage earners. Increased deaths from starvation can be directly attributed to lockdowns through out the country and at the boarder with India. The poor, unemployed youth and populations in remote areas have limited access to basic services, healthcare, and social protection. Unemployment as a result of the pandemic is soaring and the country is in the midst of a recession. Many people are unable to meet their basic needs.
Thanks to donations from Red Hat Outfitters, based in Vancouver B.C., Mountains of Relief has been able to provide funding to the Banepa Boys Club, who are providing emergency food relief to people in Nepal post severely affected by the economic hardships brought on by COVID-19. So far, we have been able to feed 500 people for five days and have the funding to provide 30 more families of four with 7-10 days of food.
The Cost to Feed a Family
COVID-19 has made a tenuous situation in Nepal even more desperate. For $15.00 CDN, we can buy essential grocery supplies for a family of four for 7-10 days.
