COVID-19 Emergency Relief Program
Emergency Food Relief
BACKGROUND
COVID-19 has taken a high toll in Nepal, and disproportionally affected poor daily wage earners. Increased deaths from starvation can be directly attributed to lockdowns through out the country and at the boarder with India. The poor, unemployed, disabled, youth, and populations in remote areas have limited access to basic services, healthcare, and social protection. Unemployment as a result of the pandemic is soaring and the country is in the midst of a recession. Many people are unable to meet their basic needs.
Thanks to donations from Red Hat Outfitters, based in Vancouver B.C., Mountains of Relief has been able to provide emergency food relief to people in Nepal severely affected by the economic hardships brought on by COVID-19. This work is being carried out by the charity organization Nepal Snehi Kaakha.
About Nepal Snehi Kaakha
Nepal Snehi Kaakha is a center focused on providing support and services for people suffering from mental illness. The organization provides safe shelter, food, clothing, medicine, and education to this vulnerable population.
The Cost to Feed a Family
COVID-19 has made a tenuous situation in Nepal even more desperate. For $15.00 CDN, we can buy essential grocery supplies for a family of four for 7-10 days.
